Review week 7 (Podcast 2)

The right use of color can do what?
maximize productivity, minimize visual fatigue, and relax the whole body/
Within the electromagnetic spectrum, which waves allow us to see color?
Visible light.
Describe white light?
EQUAL PARTS OF ALL COLOR IN VISIBLE SPECTRUM.
How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
OBJECTS APPEAR TO BE COLOR WHEN THEY ABSORB or reflect colors in the visible spectrum. reflected color is the color we see.
What is a glass prism?
A transparent trianglar object that breaks white light into all the colors of the visible light spectrum
What seven colors result when white light is refracted through a prism?
Red, Orange, Green, yello Blue, Indigo, and violent.

Describe hue?
The color itself

When does white light occur?
When all wavelentghs are reflected back to your eye.
When does black light occur?
when no light is reflected to your eye.
How color is perceived depends on what?
The type of light it is seen with.
What is a color wheel? A visual tool that shows the reltionship of colors.
What are primary colors? Name them?
Red, Yellow, and blue
What are secondary colors? Name them?
Orange, Green, and volent.
What are tertiary colors? Name them?
Red- orange, yellor-orange,yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violent, and red-violent.
What are neutral colors? How can they be created?
colors of low saturation. by mixing complementary colors.
How can a neutral color help a design?
help put focus on others colors. or serve to tone down overpowering vcolors.
What are complementary colors? Name them?
COlors opposite of each other on the color wheel. red and green, orange and blue, yellow and violent.
What is color value?
The lightness or darkness of a hue
What is a shade?
A low value color.

What is a tint?
a High value color

What is saturation/intensity?
Brightness of a color.
What happens when you mix complementary colors together?
it produces a dull tone.
Describe color harmony?
a pleasing arrangements of arts. pleasing to the eye. it engages the viewer
What is a color scheme? A harmonious color combination
Describe a monochromatic color scheme?
Uses tints and hades of one color. it is clean and elegant.

Describe an analogous color scheme?
Uses 3 colors hat are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. oftne found in nature. can accomadate changing moods.

Describe a complementary color scheme?
uses two colors that are opposite on the color wheel. wil draw lots of attention
Describe a split-complementary color scheme?
1 color + 2 adjacent to its complements
Describe a triadic color scheme?
uses 3 colors equally spaced around the color wheel.
What colors are considered to be warm colors?
yellow, oranges,and red.
Describe a warm color scheme?
Strong and welcoming, its bold and energetic.
What colors are considered to be cool colors?
Greens, blues, and violent
Describe a cool color scheme? Gives an impression of calm, em to appear father away. gives the illusion of depth.
Why is important to consider which colors are being used within a design?
the right color choice can convey the right message and envoke the desired response.

Review week 6

What is the pen tool used for? the pin tool is used for precise drawings and also i can be used to make vector images. The pin tool is used when u want to make a design perfectly or it helps u to be more exact when you are doing a design.

How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator? Discuss the use of the white arrow tool, pen+, pen-, and convert too.

How can you utilize the layers palette in Illustrator?
u can have one layer with a picture than with the other layer u can trace over that picture o r deign to incorperate your own design.

How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator? by making a clear square over the space u want to use. than u select all the objects in the square and than go to objects and click make make.

Review week 5

5 elements of Design.
Shape-i think this design is a good example of shape. It uses different shapes to create a heart. This design is simple and yet elegant. it brings a sense of peace and love.

Line- line is a form with width and length, but no depth. Artists use lines to create edges, the outlines of objects. A line is created by the movement of the artist's pen. vertical lines suggest more of a potential for movement.

Texture-Texture is the surface quality of an object. We experience texture when we touch objects and feel their roughness, smoothness or patterns. Texture is the artist's way of mapping these tactile impressions on to the two-dimensional picture. Texture is created by varying the pattern of light and dark areas on an object.

Space-

Atmospheric perspective uses color and value contrasts to show depth. Objects which are further away generally have less distinct contrast - they may fade into the background or become indistinct dark areas. The foreground objects will be clear with sharper contrast

Value-Value refers to the relative lightness or darkness of a certain area. Value can be used for emphasis. Variations in value are used to create a focal point for the design of a picture. A light figure on a dark background will be immediately recognized as the center of attention, similarly for a dark figure on a mostly white background.

Review week 4

Why/how can icons be used to communicate?
Icons can convey a message u couldnt convey with words.

Via the internet, find 2 examples of common icons that clearly communicate their message. Post both in this entry.
What is the difference between copyright and public domain?
with copyright if u take it with out permission u can get fined or sued. but public domain is for everyone
How can you avoid plagairism in this class? In other classes?
by siting our work and giving credit were it is due.

Review Post 3

What is OSHA? What do the letters stand for? Occupational Safety and Health Administration

How can graphic designers effectively communicate? In your own words, explain the communication process.
they can communicate effectively by having a simple or complex design that conveys a powerful message.

Understanding the history, culture and movements of fine and graphic arts will make you a better producer of visual messages. Why?
Because if you know the history u an incorperate things in your design to make it stand out.

Podcast #1 ELEMENTS INTO DESGIN

What does it take to create good graphic design?
it requires a understanding of elements and principles of design
What is the difference between elements and principles?
elements are components of art, and principles tell us how we should organize those elements
Name the six (6) elements of design.
Line, Shape, Space, Texture, Value, and color
What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with  other lines or shapes?
The readability appearance, appearance and message of a design
Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
Horizontal lines.
Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
feeling of loftiness
What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
Diagonal lines
Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
comfort, safety, relaxation
These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
Dep, acute curves.
What element defines a specific area of space?
Shape
What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
2d has width and height. a 3d has depth as well as width and height
Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?
geometric shapes are structured ofter symetrical. organic are found in nature or man made shape. often irregular
What are abstract shapes?

stylezied or over symlified shapes
Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?
A square
What do triangles suggest?
Action
Circles convey feelings of what?
feeling of protection or infinity
Describe positive space and negative space?
positive space- refers to objects and elements used in a design
negative space- refers to shape around and between those elements
What is texture?
Can refer to the actual surface of a design with the reader actually being abel to feel the texture of the paper and materials in the printed design.

Incorporating texture into a design can help do what?
create a feeling of richness and depth
What is value?
degree of light and dark in a design

What is another name for value?
tone
What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design?
Convey moods, create images, attract attention, and identify objects.
